WWU Presents: Why You Should Be Concerned About Cyber Security

May 9, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

With near overwhelming media coverage and national concerns about cyber security, it’s a personal and relevant issue not to be ignored. The obvious question for many people is, here do I begin to confront this contemporary menace? Dr. Fretheim will discuss the reasons why we should be concerned about cyber security, but to help put your mind at ease, he’ll provide a few simple steps that will protect you and reduce the level of risk without drastic lifestyle changes. Dr. Erik Fretheim is program director for the Bachelor’s of Science Computer and Information Systems Security degree program at Western Washington University and co-director of the Internet Studies Center, Initiative for Cyber Security and Privacy. Dr. Fretheim is a graduate of West Point and received his MSEE and PhD from the Air Force Institute of Technology, and an MBA from Long Island University. He has been involved with cyberwar competitions since the NSA sponsored the first competition 17 years ago at West Point.
